Roe Deer

Roe Deer

It is a mammal that is very shy and loves the woods. It hides there during the day and comes out in the evening to graze.

Its call is known as a crack sound, but it is commonly called a bark because it sounds very similar to a dog’s hoarse bark.

It is a herbivore, which means it eats only grass or berries/acorns in winter, and it is also prey, since other animals can hunt it.

Curiosities

Only males have antlers. They lose them every year (in spring), but they grow back completely before the mating season (in autumn).

It is a solitary animal, living at most in small family groups (mother and offspring).

It can live up to 14 years and weigh up to 30 kg.

The roe deer is hunted by wolves, but its greatest enemy is humans.

WARNING!
If you find a fawn in the woods, do not touch it: your scent makes it recognizable to predators.
